MUSICA VIVA

“Da Vinci’s Apprentice”

Today (Monday 4th September), the entire school was entertained by the musical group, Musica Viva and their original performance of “Da Vinci’s Apprentice.”  With strong links to music and Italian, this engaging performance told the story of a young girl in Italy, keen to become an inventor and learn from the master himself, Leonardo Da Vinci.  The performance included live music, performed with three unusual instruments, popular in Da Vinci’s time, the viola da gamba, the theorbo and the cornetto.  The students had a wonderful time, singing along, moving and discovering the origins of Da Vinci’s many inventions.

THOUGHTS FROM ROOM G

“I liked when she was doing push ups because it was very funny. I liked singing the songs with the people too.” – Maya

“I liked how the girl came bashing out the door at the start of the show. I liked the push ups because she was pretending to be a boy. She had to pretend to be a boy because girls weren’t allowed to be inventors in the 1500s.” – Matthias

“I liked when she came out the first time because she scared some of us! She even scared the teachers. I liked how she did push ups because she was trying to show us she could be like a boy.” – Jack

“I liked that at the end of the performance we got to ask questions, because we found out things we didn’t know about the instruments and the whole musical story of Leonardo da Vinci.” – Pippa
