In 2021, Christ The King shifted from the traditional school leadership format to a Student Representative Council approach.
This meant that rather than have specific roles and titles for elected positions (eg. House Leaders, Social Justice Leaders, Arts Leaders etc), each member of the Student Representative Council would have the title of Student Leader and would represent one of Year Levels of the school. Students that were interested in applying for a position of Leadership completed a Google Application Form in early December last year. Applicants were asked to explain what they understood by leadership and why it was important to them. The applicants were also asked to reflect on their attitudes, behaviours and outlook on school and learning. The process of selection was both rigorous and fair. The applications were viewed by the Leaders of the school, the Student Leader Coordinator and the teachers of the Senior Learning Community.
This year, there are a total of seven Students Leaders that together form The Student Representative Council and each represent a Year Level from Prep to Six. Along with this, there are two additional Student Leaders with the title of Sustainability Leaders.
The Responsibilities of The Student Leaders:
The responsibilities of the Student Representative Council and Sustainability Leaders include:
-
Meeting with their respective year level to share ideas and receive feedback related to Student Wellbeing and improving student morale.
-
Meeting with the Student Leadership Coordinator (Mr Doherty) and leaders of the school to discuss and organise leadership initiatives (eg. special activity days, fundraisers).
-
Communicating activities within their assigned year level to the wider school community (eg. items for the newsletter, reporting to a whole school audience at line up, contributions to the school website and social media).
-
Working collaboratively with the members of the Green Team (student representatives from Year Levels 3 to 6 that are responsible for embedding sustainable practices) to initiate and promote environmentally safe practices across the school and wider community.
